Andrey V. Ragulya

Andrey V. Ragulya, doctor of technical sciences, professor, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine, was born on March 18, 1960 in  Sergiev Posad. In 1983 he graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology. In 1985 he entered the postgraduate course at the Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science NAS of Ukraine, where he succeeded from graduate student to deputy director on science (since 2002). Scientific activity of Dr. Ragulya is associated with the creation and research of nanostructured materials that demonstrate qualitatively new electrophysical and physico-mechanical and optical properties. He has developed a new scientific direction - rate-controlled thermally activated processes, in particular the synthesis of nanoparticles and their sintering, which are the basis of obtaining bulk nanostructured materials. Theoretical foundations of selective laser sintering, microwave and spark-plasma sintering of nanopowders, rate-controlled sintering was developed; several complex technologies have been developed for production of nanostructured multilayer ceramic capacitors with ultra-thin electrodes and dielectric layers; high melting point nanocomposites and ceramic cutting tools from them. For the first time, he combined 3D printing and spark-plasma sintering for complex shape parts, including optically transparent ceramics. The "dimensional effect" in the properties of nanomaterials, in particular, ceramics based on oxygen-free phases, was determined, and a diagram of phase transformations in barium titanate depending on the size of the ceramic grains was constructed. Dr. A. V. Ragulya has authored more than 250 publications, including 6 monographs, 15 patents and inventions. Trained 2 Doctors of Sciences and 6 Candidates of Sciences. Winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2015). In 2006 he was elected a full member of the International Institute for Sintering Science. From 2018 he is the President of the Ukrainian Material Research Society.
